Welcome to our first Pitch Off competition for
early stage (seed & start-up) companies. Our focus is ICT
companies with revenues less than $5 million and outside funding of
less than $2.5 million. We will also consider a limited number of Life
Sciences and Cleantech applicants.
The competition is open up to 100 Canadian early
stage companies interested in pitching, getting feedback and networking.
What is the Road to Banff 3.0 2011?
It’s the chance of a lifetime for 100
start ups from across Canada as the Canadian Digital Media Network
hosts the Road to Banff Venture Forum Pitch Off at Canada 3.0.
Registrants will benefit from a pitch off workshop before moving into
30-minute opportunities to put their best case forward to a panel of
seasoned investors. All participants will receive a video tape of the
pitch and panel feedback. The best three pitches win an
all-expenses-paid trip to the Banff Venture Forum.
Prizes:
3 Grand Prizes – all expense paid trip
to the Banff Venture Forum courtesy of the Canadian Digital Media
Network and Communitech. Winners will receive travel, accommodations
and conference fees to the Banff Venture Forum, Canada’s
premier Venture Capital forum. In addition, Banff Venture Forum
organizers will host a one day workshop for the winners that will
include introductions to funders and pairing companies with a VC mentor
for the conference.
10 Runners Up – there will also be 10
runners up prizes (worth $1,000 each) from a variety of professional
services firms for services such as IP work, SRED claims, marketing
design, etc.

Pitch Format
Each company has a 10-minute pitch slot. There
will be a minimum of three judges (angel investors, VCs, professional
services providers, etc). There will be 15 minutes of Q&A and
feedback. The complete session will be videotaped.
The Final 16 companies will make it to a Wednesday pitch off with the
final winners announced at the Canada 3.0 conference wrap-up.
Judging
Judges will use a rubric for scoring that will
cover the following categories:
- Compelling product or service with a clearly
defined value proposition
- Viable business model
- Entrepreneurs who demonstrate an ability to
execute on their plans
- Overall presentation
